The Marine Protected Area of Capo Testa-Punta Falcone is launching an invitation, particularly to children and young people, to propose a name to be given to a dolphin , scientifically and bureaucratically referred to with the acronym AST01, which has been swimming, diving and playing in the Teresina waters for some time.

And of the dolphin, which is female, he publishes the photo; it was spotted, "the dolphin", in the Cala Spinosa area a few weeks ago.

"We have catalogued it as AST01 - writes the AMP - but we would like to give it a name that comes from this community". "It would be easier - says the director, Yuri Donno - to talk about it, when it is sighted and follow it in life. A name that identifies it, more familiar, that makes it closer to us and to our marine environment in which it lives".

A way to become fond of her and follow her, maybe even when she will be carrying puppies in her womb and when she will give birth to them. It is quite common, in the waters of the Marine Protected Area, to spot dolphins, especially during autumn and winter, when the area is less busy and the marine habitat is more peaceful and liveable.

"What many do not know - writes the AMP - is that each dolphin, especially from adulthood, is recognizable throughout its life. The shape of the fin and the small scars on it are a sort of fingerprint. It often happens that some of the animals sighted have a residence in an area for fairly long periods of time and "familiarity" leads to identifying them with common imaginary names".

And this is what we want to achieve. "Smartphones equipped with cameras and the ability to share a geographic location allow each of us to be an active part of this research." So let's give space to imagination and to the proposal of names.
