Nadia Matta , mayor of Santa Teresa Gallura since 2020, does not like how in some cases public spaces are used and managed by concessionaires, particularly in the summer season . For example, placing furnishing elements that are not permitted or foreseen by the specific municipal regulations, thus creating situations that are certainly not optimal regarding the aesthetic and functional aspects for the passage of pedestrians, especially those with disabilities; or, as in other cases, there is carelessness in ensuring the constant cleaning of the pavement or the stretch of road onto which the restaurant overlooks and on which sweepers and cleaners of the urban hygiene service cannot intervene, due to the constant presence of tables, chairs and shade furniture.

There is also no shortage, according to Mayor Matta, of "unseemly situations" which "are also created by the presence of waste containers positioned, throughout the day, near the activities, and by the lack of attention in the methods of disposal of waste from one's business, as piles of waste such as cardboard and plastic are often created after the restaurant closes, when the historic center is still full of tourists".

It also happens that, in other cases, "furnishing elements, such as tables, chairs, umbrellas, flower boxes, are placed beyond the public space granted, taking away the usability of the land for passers-by who have the right to circulate comfortably through the streets of the city centre" . For these reasons, the mayor has ordered a series of measures for the owners of public businesses for the supply of food and drinks , commercial and artisanal activities; starting from the fact that the delimitation of the perimeter of the concession area cannot be carried out with additional completions outside the dehors (external space of a public establishment), such as balustrades, statues, lanterns, flower boxes, etc..

Furthermore, the dehors must not be used for functions other than those permitted; stop to serial type elements, such as signs, umbrellas, chairs, billboards, etc., with advertising writings, provided as sponsorship; also stop waste containers on public land, if not exclusively at the times and in the manner indicated by the manager depending on the specific type of waste, placing them near the public road and in a position that allows them to be easily loaded by the company in charge ( and must be promptly collected after emptying).

The owner of the business must also constantly guarantee the cleanliness and integrity of the containers - it is written in the ordinance - in order to avoid excessive miasmas and the soiling of public land; cleaning operations of containers that cannot be carried out in a public area. The cleaning of the assigned land must also take place daily, with the collection of waste produced by one's activity and with washing to be carried out at night or in the early hours of the morning so as not to disturb passers-by.

Fines ranging from 25 euros to 500 euros are expected for those who transgress, without prejudice to the application of what is foreseen and regulated by the Plans and Regulations in force.
