The program agreement between the Sardinia Region and the Municipality of Cagliari was signed this afternoon for the new stadium that will be built in place of the Sant'Elia stadium, which was abandoned in 2017. After the green light from the Regional Council, today the President of the Region Alessandra Todde and the Mayor Massimo Zedda illustrated the new developments.

"Together with the stadium project, we are unblocking a series of interventions, with the Sardinia Region providing solutions to a series of issues that have been blocked for years," stressed the mayor of Cagliari, Massimo Zedda . "When we first saw this project, we didn't just think about the stadium: we were thinking about national and international events, with the dream of the European Football Championships that would interest all Sardinians, and we wanted it to be part of a broader project," added the president of the Sardinia Region, Alessandra Todde.

The sum of 50 million from the Region remains, but the new agreement modifies - and not a little - the previous one signed by Christian Solinas and Paolo Truzzu. In particular, explains the Region, it renounces "volumetries that regulated transformations in the areas surrounding the stadium, including between the San Bartolomeo and Sant'Elia neighborhoods, lightening the urban planning burden in favor of a different use of the same surfaces, more consistent with the Regional Landscape Plan and the environmental policies promoted at European level". The sports facility, green areas and public housing are the backbones.
