The first construction sites of the urban regeneration plan announced at the end of March by the Municipality and the Region have started in Sant'Elia. An unprecedented intervention, supported by a total financial endowment of over 100 million euros, coming from regional, national and European funds, destined to rewrite the future of a neighborhood long marked by poor services and marginalization.
The work began with the underground services: renovation of the water network, sewerage system and public lighting . This is the first phase of a larger program that includes the redevelopment of public spaces, residential buildings, sports facilities, health and social services, urban greenery.
Among the most anticipated interventions are the completion of the Parco degli Anelli and the redevelopment of the seafront, central elements to restore dignity and liveability to the neighborhood.
Mayor Massimo Zedda, in a post published on social media, underlined how this integrated approach represents a replicable model: «With the same method, by making several institutions and services collaborate, actions are also underway in Pirri, Mulinu Becciu, Is Mirrionis, San Michele and Sant'Avendrace. In Cagliari, the neighborhoods are at the center of the administration's work».
A major structural investment by the Municipality on quality of life, social cohesion and infrastructure, to restore centrality to the popular neighborhoods often forgotten by large development plans. In the coming months, the building and environmental interventions will get into full swing, with a timetable that aims to transform Sant'Elia into one of the symbols of the new Cagliari.
