Sandro Renato Garau is the new secretary of the Guspinese circle of the Democratic Party. The sixty-seven year old, a former teacher now retired, sat on the benches of the city council for 25 years, also holding the position of councilor for culture. He takes over from Danilo Serpi, who remained in office for two terms, for a total of nine years : «In addition to wishing the new secretary a good job, I am proud to have led Guspini's PD - comments Serpi - I leave aware of having done a good job; now my role changes, but my commitment and my passion do not change, which I will loyally make available to the new secretary, for the growth of the party».

The new secretary Garau, unanimously elected, expressed gratitude for the trust and spoke of his projects and his intentions at the helm of the local club: «Everything is very simple to achieve - he begins - I set some conditions to ensure that I could accept and not be left alone, as you don't go anywhere if you run alone". Using three words, which are sincerity, frankness and loyalty, Garau described his commitment to Guspini: «To put myself, and to put ourselves, all to listen to the situations and problems that exist in the town, above all by looking poverty in the face, which is a lot. There are elderly people, precarious workers, and many other people who don't make ends meet. I want to have an eye for employees, who deserve equal attention and, very important, pay attention to the countryside, businesses and schools, without neglecting the villages that need important interventions, together with the enhancement of the city's wealth represented by the many associations present, which could be a driving force for growth for the community».

Saturday's congress was not only used for the election of Garau as the new secretary: the members of the board were elected, the delegates to the provincial assembly and the candidates proposed for the national primaries, which precede those at the end of February, were chosen. These saw the victory of Stefano Bonaccini with 25 votes, followed with 5 votes by Elly Schlein and Gianni Cuperlo, and by Paola De Micheli who took one vote.
