Dozens of turtles under the camping tent.
Following a report in a campsite in Capo Coda Cavallo, San Teodoro, Forestry Corps operators intervened on site and found 54 specimens of marginated tortoise (testudo marginata), of various sizes, in a tent.
The staff of the Investigative Unit of the Environmental and Forestry Police of Nuoro, together with the Forestry Station of Siniscola, seized all the turtles, transferred them and entrusted them to the Montalbo Veterinary Clinic of Siniscola . After being examined by a veterinarian, the turtles in good health will be released into their natural habitat, while those in need of care will receive the necessary health care.
"In Sardinia - the Forestry Corps recalls - there are three wild species of European tortoises (testudo Hermanni, testudo Graeca and testudo marginata), species protected by the Washington Convention (CITES), considered at risk of extinction, which live in the wild in natural environments. The illegal possession of specimens of these species is prohibited and constitutes a crime; the person who illegally held them was reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Nuoro".
