The suspected perpetrator of the unexploded homemade explosive device thrown in front of a local youth's home was identified within hours.
A 25-year-old unemployed man from San Sperate, already known to law enforcement, was reported at large by the Carabinieri following a cursory investigation launched yesterday. His status is now being examined by the judicial authorities.
The alarm was raised when a 21-year-old local man noticed a homemade firecracker in front of his front door and immediately contacted 112.
The San Sperate military intervened, cordoning off the area and implementing safety procedures established in the event of suspicious explosive devices. The bomb squad from the Cagliari Provincial Command's Investigative Unit then arrived on site, securing and removing the object. The explosive device had not exploded by accident.
According to what was reconstructed during the first hours of the investigation, the 25-year-old allegedly threw the device with the aim of intimidating the young man.
The Carabinieri quickly acquired and analysed the images from the video surveillance systems present in the area, managing to identify a suspect and follow his movements immediately after the act.
The evidence collected led, that same evening, to a personal and home search of the suspect.
Inside the house and on the young man's clothing, the officers found a machete with a 27-centimeter blade, a Pattadese pistol hidden in his pants, and four bullets—one .38 caliber and three .30 caliber—held without authorization. The material was seized.
