In San Gavino Monreale , thanks to the beautiful sunny Sunday, the first day of the Festival delle Strade dello Safferano di Sardegna PDO ended with a success with the public. Thousands of people have chosen to walk the streets of San Gavino Monreale to discover the secrets, flavors and aromas of the true Sardinian tradition . Hundreds of portions of food, enriched with the precious spice, which were prepared and served by dozens of stands located along the route of the Sardinian DOP saffron roads.

The event, organized by the network of the municipalities of Turri, San Gavino Monreale and Villanovafranca, supported by the Foundation of Sardinia and the Department of Culture of the Sardinia Region, with the organizational coordination of the Local Authorities Association for Cultural and Entertainment Activities, is only the first of three weekends that will also animate the municipalities of Turri, November 13, and Villanovafranca, November 20, during the month, and which saw the start of the CIVIS in San Gavino Monreale on Saturday 5 November with the presentation of the book "Sardegna & Saffron a story along the centuries ”, a meeting and debate where the foundations were laid for the future development of Saffron from Sardinia.

The idea that is strengthened after this edition of the event of the Strade dello Safferano di Sardegna PDO is to create a sort of " Saffron brotherhood ", a single container of human resources where operators from different sectors, agricultural entrepreneurs, restaurateurs can be brought together. and commercial and artisanal activities which, if supported as a network, will be able to guarantee an effective reception action, but above all the promotion of Sardinian red gold in regional and national exhibitions and fairs, but also in international markets.

From the early hours of the morning the town of San Gavino Monreale began to come alive with voices and the presence of tourists and onlookers, all interested in discovering the secrets of Sardinia's red gold. Particularly successful were the visits to the historic "saffron" train, the opportunity to experience the breeze of bound flight in a balloon, the didactic moments dedicated to the art of harvesting and hulling saffron and the evocative visits to the saffron fields. Smiling faces and a lot of crowds also in the food stands where the numerous tourists were able to stop and taste some of the typical dishes of the local tradition , and discover why the Sardinian saffron is so important in the streets and alleys of San Gavino Monreale.
