The Cagliari Public Prosecutor's Office closed the investigation and asked for the indictment of 9 suspects in the investigation into the expansion of the Rwm bomb factory, the company with a plant in Domusnovas, Sulcis, controlled by the German Rheinmetall.

The preliminary hearing before the gup will open on June 29 against the CEO of Rwm, Fabio Sgarzi, his deputy, Leonardo Demarchi, and the three technicians appointed by the company to draw up the expansion projects, Palmiro Palmas, Ignazio Pibia and Mauro Pompei.

The prosecutor Rossella Spano also asked for indictment for the municipal officials who had issued the authorizations for the expansion, the head of the Single Desk for Production and Construction Activities (Suape) of Iglesias and Domusnovas, Lamberto Tomasi, Elsa Ghiani, Anna Rita Perseu and Giuseppe Matzei.

In the charge stand false allegations and about thirty alleged violations of building and environmental regulations related to the expansion project of the factory between 2017 and 2019.

The investigation was born from a series of complaints lodged by various pacifist and ecological associations, committees and trade union organizations.

The judge of the preliminary hearings Manuela Anzani identified the Region, the municipalities of Iglesias and Domusnovas as offended parties together with the associations Italia Nostra onlus, Non-violent Movement, Union of Cagliari Base, Cagliari Social Forum, Sardinian Trade Union Confederation, Assotzius Consumadoris Sardigna, Self-development Experimental Center Association, Rwm Conversion Committee.

THE STOP TO THE ENLARGEMENT - The expansion of the Rwm bomb factory in Domusnovas was rejected by the Council of State last November when the second instance administrative judges reformed the 2020 sentence of the Sardinian Tar, after an appeal presented by Italia Nostra , Union Union of Base for the Region of Sardinia, Assotziu Consumadoris Sardigna Onlus.

Thus, the single provision of the municipality of Iglesias which authorized the construction of the new production departments and the resolution of January 2019 by which the Regional Council had decided not to subject the project for the expansion of the plant and the new test field to Via, considered in "connection" and therefore part of a single production structure.

Even before the appeal to the TAR, however, the associations and committees had presented some complaints to the Public Prosecutor of Cagliari to clarify the works for the expansion of the new range for explosive tests (the "Test Field R140") and of the new departments for the manufacturing of the PBX-castable explosives and loading of the respective bombs.
