A new chapter in the RWM Italia-Rheinmetall Group affair. The Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, acting on the recommendation of Minister Adolfo Urso, has convened a meeting for Tuesday, December 16, at 12:30 p.m. to update on the company's situation, with particular attention to the Domusnovas plant in Sulcis, Sardinia.
The ministerial meeting comes just as activists continue to mobilize against the factory's presence. Another demonstration is planned for tomorrow, Sunday, December 14th, at 10:30 a.m., with a meeting at Villamassargia Station, organized by the Sardinian Committee for Solidarity with Palestine.
"RWM is not development; it leaves no wealth in Sardinia. The enormous profits fly abroad, to Germany, to Israel. The few jobs are nothing compared to the resources stolen, to the true development that is not promoted to force us into unworthy labor," the committee's statement reads.
The group also criticizes the institutions' attitude: "The shameful ultimatum imposed by the Regional Administrative Court (TAR) on the Sardinia Region regarding the illegal expansion of the RWM is coming to an end, and nothing seems to be leaking from the halls of power. This may seem like a good sign, but the reality is harsher."
Finally, the committee appeals to the Region: "If the Region doesn't speak out, the State will patch things up with a commissionership. And this means further sacrificing our land on the altar of exploitation and weapons production. We must demand that President Todde not sacrifice Sardinia for interests that aren't ours."
