A new search has been underway since this morning for Rosa Bechere , the 62-year-old disabled pensioner who has not been heard from since November 25, 2022.

The Carabinieri of the Olbia territorial department, together with the Sardinian Hunters, the men of the Coast Guard and the divers are combing every inch of the stretch of water in front of the gulf of Olbia and in the vicinity of the island of Mezzo, a few miles from the Olbia coast.

The search, conducted by land and sea, is being coordinated by the Attorney General's Office at the Sassari Court of Appeal—which reopened the case last month —and entrusted to the Tempio Pausania Public Prosecutor, Alessandro Bosco, who is present on site.

In connection with the disappearance of the woman who was the partner of Davide Iannelli, the man sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Tony Cozzolino in Olbia, the Prosecutor's Office has registered Maria Giovanna Meloni, 45, and her partner Giorgio Beccu, 52, as suspects, charged with murder and concealment of a corpse.

In recent weeks, specialists from the RIS in Cagliari conducted new surveys and investigations at the couple's homes , both in Olbia and in the hamlet of Su Canale, in Monti. The two suspects, friends of the missing woman and her partner, are being defended by lawyers Angelo Merlini and Giampaolo Murrighile, and have always maintained their innocence.

The current hypothesis is that Rosa Bechere's body was taken by car to a small port in the town of Olbia, and from there it was dumped in the sea on a small barge. Searches at sea had already been conducted in 2023, but never in the body of water near Isola di Mezzo.
