We are working to activate an additional 106 places in existing facilities in Sicily, Sardinia, and Lazio . We have also begun procedures to build new facilities: one in Campania, two in Trentino-Alto Adige, one in Calabria, one in Tuscany, and one in Emilia-Romagna.
This was stated by the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi , during question time in the Chamber of Deputies regarding repatriation detention centres.
" Almost all of the individuals currently held in Italian CPRs—90%—have been charged with drug-related offenses , including those committed in association with criminal organizations. Of these, approximately 30% also have prior convictions for theft and robbery, 25% for crimes against the person, including sexual assault, including against minors, and 33% for carrying and possessing weapons."
"Then there are individuals detained with prior convictions for murder and assault , and others who pose a threat to national security," Piantedosi added, specifying: "Since we took office, the total number of repatriations has increased by over 40%. And in these first months of the year, the figure is still up by more than 30% compared to the same period last year. But above all, the percentage ratio between undocumented immigrants disembarked and repatriated has increased: we have gone from 3% in 2023 to 10% in 2025, and even to 33% since the beginning of the year."
