Shipwreck and Manslaughter . These are the hypothetical crimes at the bottom of the file opened by the Cagliari Public Prosecutor's Office following the tragic shipwreck that took place 50 nautical miles off the coast of Sant'Antioco , in southern Sardinia, on Saturday night.

Seven migrants (six men and one woman), who departed from the Algerian port of Skikda and headed for Sardinia, were saved, but unfortunately there are one confirmed victim and six missing .

According to survivors' accounts, the migrants, all in their 20s and 40s, were aboard a small boat adrift in very rough seas, with no food or water, when they were spotted by the Liberian-flagged freighter Christina B. which from Istanbul was proceeding south of Sardinia to the Spanish port of Tarragona.

As soon as the motorboat approached for rescue, the occupants threw themselves into the sea : moments of excitement in which the small boat capsized and was swallowed up by the waves . Some managed to save themselves, the remaining half, however, disappeared into the waves.

The testimonies of the survivors were collected by the men of the Flying Squad of the Cagliari Police Headquarters and by the agents of the Carbonia Police Station .

At sea, for the transhipment and transfer of the castaways to the mainland, the Coast Guard of Sant'Antioco then intervened under the coordination of the general command of Rome, while the searches are conducted by an ATR 72 of the Guardia di Finanza which in these hours is carrying out a patrol on the stretch of sea between Algeria and Sardinia.

The surviving migrants were taken to the reception center in Monastir.
