Enough with the invasion of cars parked on the cycle paths. And no more speeding cars on city streets.

These are the claims of the Fiab, an association at the forefront of cycle mobility, whose members today, in Cagliari, have symbolically occupied the lane destined for bicycles in Piazza Garibaldi.

«The situation in Piazza Garibaldi - explains the spokesman Virgilio Scanu - is under the eyes of all citizens of Cagliari. But it is a habit that is repeated in many other areas of the city, especially at school entrances and exits: the cycle paths become car parks».

«The city lacks - Scanu insists - the continuity of the route: the basic idea was, for example, to create a direct connection between Piazza Repubblica and the Poetto. But, think of the Amsicora roundabout, a cyclist runs the risk of getting confused, the signage is not clear. But this is just one example."

The long wait for the cycle/pedestrian bridge that should connect Su Siccu to Sant'Elia is also in the crosshairs of the association. "But the leads - warns Scanu - are all incomplete".

The Fiab also calls for greater attention to the 30 km per hour areas. «It's not enough to fix the signs - explains Scanu - we need to invest in policies for the sustainable transformation of cities as, for example, Bologna and Milan are doing. In general, northern cities are doing excellent things. In Sardinia we are more or less at the level of the other cities in the south».
