The trial against seven employees of the local University , accused of unauthorized access to the computer system for having consulted the database of the University and downloaded a series of documents on the university career of the governor of Sardinia , Christian Solinas, opened today in court in Sassari .
The facts date back to when Solinas was a candidate for the presidency of the Region and some newspapers had published reports that raised doubts about the governor's studies, who, after a degree from abroad, had also obtained a degree in Law in Sassari. Some details mentioned in the press articles could only come from the Sassari University databases .
The public prosecutor of Cagliari, Diana Lecca, had asked for the acquittal of the seven after a report from the University that certified that all employees had free access to the database, but Solinas's lawyer had produced a sentence of the Supreme Court which sanctions the illegitimacy of entries not specifically authorized. For this reason , in June the judge of the Sardinian capital had indicted Michele Meloni, Luigi Antonio Catogno, Paolo Deledda, Franca Carmela Sanna, Barbara Pes, Laura Mureddu and Liana Carboni , all employees of the University of Sassari.
According to the accusation , the seven illegally consulted and extrapolated the data relating to the university career of the current president of the Region.
Solinas, who was not in the courtroom, filed a civil action.
Judge Antonio Spanu postponed the hearing to February 14 , when the two witnesses cited by the prosecutor, Lara Senatore, will be heard in the courtroom: the former director general of the University of Sassari, Cristiano Nicoletti, and the officer of the Postal Police who carried out the investigations.
