The election campaign is in its final stages. The final days of touring and canvassing are underway ahead of the polls on Sunday, June 7th and Monday, June 8th : aperitifs, parties, and strolls through the city by individual aspiring councilors, culminating in the final rallies of the mayoral candidates and their respective coalitions.

Outgoing mayor Graziano Milia , running for re-election to the City Council with a coalition of nine civic lists, concluded last night at Casa Olla—on Via Porcu—with a half-serious, half-joking interview with Lucido Sottile. Ironic, insistent questions, and a point Milia has reiterated several times: "Quartu's rebirth must not be stopped."

The hour-long rally-cum-spectacle, during which the outgoing mayor reeled off the results achieved and future goals, stated: "My dream is to complete the journey I've undertaken in this city by establishing real change," Milia explained. He then highlighted the achievements , from the growth of tourism to the city's cultural vibrancy, from the collective mobilization of local associations to the various community centers opened—from the crowded Spazio Michelangelo Pira to the recently inaugurated youth center—from the kilometers of asphalt to the redevelopment projects of the Poetto beach and sports facilities. Furthermore, the tax cuts, the introduction of incentives, animal welfare, the post station, and the major projects of the Fornaci Picci, Distillerie Capra, and student housing.

"Starting from scratch would be incredibly wrong," Milia added. "In recent years, we have brought about change in Quartu, and the people of Quartu have responded with a collective mobilization. We must continue like this, be generous toward our city, love it more and make it loved. So that it can gain an increasingly central role in the metropolitan and regional landscape."

The competitors will close their electoral campaign tomorrow at Poetto : Roberto Matta - candidate for mayor with the civic list Turismo e Progresso - will speak at 6 pm at Marlin, half an hour later the leader of the center-right Marco Porcu - supported by six lists - will begin at Frontemare.
