Immediately 200,000 euros for the purchase of barriers and deterrents capable of preventing the crossing of deer and fallow deer, with the hope of soon having other resources to solve the problem of the presence of ungulates downstream: after the summit held in the offices of the regional Department of the Environment, the Municipality is ready to carry out the first interventions to limit the ungulates' trespassing.

There have been 96 certified road accidents in recent years, plus those that are not reported by drivers because the animal hit has fled . Given the high number of accidents, Pula is the municipality that has received the most resources from the Region to stem the problem of the massive presence of deer and fallow deer downstream. The mayor, Walter Cabasino, reveals the next objective: «We will contact a company specialized in the production of barriers and deterrents to be placed in the areas near the state road 195 where these animals usually cross. Of course, this is only one way to immediately prevent new road accidents from occurring, but to get to the bottom of the problem, a multidisciplinary approach is needed, which allows us to find lasting solutions. At the summit, which was also attended by the heads of Forestas and the Forestry Corps, the need to give deer and fallow deer places in the mountains where they can find food and drink, so that they do not feel the need to go downstream, was reiterated».

Elisabetta Loi, deputy mayor and councilor for Agriculture, in addition to the safety of motorists, highlights the problem of agricultural companies brought to their knees by deer raids : "We have asked for the involvement of the regional department of Agriculture because this situation, for years now, has had repercussions on the work of farmers. Many cultivated lands have been abandoned because limiting the raids of these animals is practically impossible, the damage caused is huge and it is right that politics takes note of it: finally, however, after a long time the Region has decided to address the problem".

In Sarroch, accidents caused by deer are equally numerous, to which are added those caused by wild boars that, having crossed State Road 195, are now at home inside the Saras refinery: "The Region has assured us that our Municipality will soon receive compensation, but in the meantime the presence of ungulates and wild boars downstream continues to increase", anticipates Mayor Angelo Dessì. Censuses to have an account of the phenomenon and barriers along the roads are welcome, but what is really needed is a strategy to ensure that these animals remain in their habitat".
