More asbestos fiber cement sheets collapsing from old buildings in the industrial area of Porto Torres. Structural collapses of the roofing that have affected the abandoned industrial plant of the former Ferriera Sarda, located in via Marco Polo, corner of via Vivaldi. The emergency situation is written in the report of the ASL 1 of Sassari, Hygiene and Public Health Service, transmitted after the inspection carried out on the site on February 12, an inspection that highlights the advanced state of degradation of the structures inside the old warehouse, one of the many abandoned monsters in the industrial desert with significant and widespread collapses of the roof made up of fiber cement sheets.

On via Fratelli Vivaldi, some fragments of Eternit were found that must be removed, as they could be subject to fragmentation and constitute a source of fibres dispersed in the environment. The most serious condition, for the environment and the health of users of the area, is represented by the presence of broken sheets and fragments of asbestos-cement material near the perimeter wall of the shed and stuck in the surrounding trees. Making it safe is absolutely necessary for the protection of public health and hygiene , with immediate restoration of the hygienic-sanitary conditions, through the removal and disposal of all waste containing asbestos found in the area.

Mayor Massimo Mulas has signed yet another ordinance addressing the owners of the bankrupt company (Laterizi Torres) and its curators , so that they take immediate action (within and no later than 10 days of notification of the provision) and restore the health and hygiene conditions. In particular, the mayor orders the removal and disposal of all waste containing asbestos still present on via Fratelli Vivaldi, in the vicinity of the perimeter wall of the disused former Ferriera Sarda building, by entrusting it to a specialized company. The mayor also invites the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security to intervene and take measures aimed at verifying, monitoring and ensuring the safety and remediation of the entire area.
