A homeless man of about 40 years old, sitting in a wheelchair, has found for a few days his only refuge in an open area, near the church of the Holy Spirit in Porto Torres, where he spent the night exposed to the cold and rain. Wary of people who approach, he has refused all help and support. This morning the parish priests of the church, Don Andrea Stara and Don Boniface Da, tried to offer him help.
The man was found in critical health conditions inside the building of the former agricultural Consortium, last December 20, when the firefighters intervened and supported the 118 operators to transfer him on board the ambulance to the Santissima Annunziata. A complex management that also saw the involvement of the Social Services of the Municipality of Porto Torres .
"Attention to the most vulnerable people has been at the heart of the administration's work since the first day of its mandate," stressed the councilor for Social Services and the mayor, Simona Fois and Massimo Mulas. "In the most recent cases, in particular, we assure that all necessary assistance has always been provided and guaranteed , both in purely practical terms - healthcare, housing and other essential services - and in economic terms. However, the municipal administration, through the competent figures, cannot force any individual to receive care and assistance, because the availability of those directly involved to receive the help offered is essential."
The administration assures: "Our commitment to offer concrete support and to be close to the most fragile people, as we have always done, with dedication and responsibility. Each situation will continue to be carefully monitored through the competent figures , so that no one feels abandoned or excluded".
