Trains connecting Sassari to Porto Torres resumed this morning , Monday 3 February, a suspension made necessary by the fall of a signal pole on the railway tracks . The alarm was raised on Sunday afternoon, when a report arrived that a large pole had collapsed on the tracks, causing disruption to traffic on that stretch of railway, at kilometre 156 , near Ottava .
The fire brigade teams took several hours to make the area safe again. However, the tracks were still impassable, forcing the technicians of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana to cancel the 18.43 trips on the Sassari-Porto Torres line . The Carabinieri have started investigations to determine whether it was an accident or whether someone purposely placed the pole on the tracks, with the risk of causing an accident.
The general secretary of Filt Cgil, Arnaldo Boeddu, speaks of a " tragedy narrowly avoided ". At that moment, no train was passing. "If the pole had collapsed as the train was passing," Boeddu emphasizes, "we could have seen a real disaster."
