The trial in Sassari, under summary proceedings, is proceeding into the death of Paola Sanna, the 26-year-old from Cagliari who died in August 2024 in a head-on collision with a Honda traveling toward Alghero on the SS291. Preliminary hearing judge Gian Paolo Piana admitted the Association of Relatives and Road Victims, with its registered office in Milan, to join the proceedings as civil parties. The driver of the Japanese car, who was traveling with other passengers, all tourists, is accused of driving the wrong way. He is represented by lawyer Umberto Carboni.

The Association has received the patronage of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, and the State Police, with which it collaborates. The sums requested as compensation by statute must be allocated to the implementation of road safety education projects in collaboration with the State Police, the association's partner, the External Criminal Enforcement Offices of the Ministry of Justice, and local organizations and associations interested in raising public awareness of road safety.
