There are 1500 passes issued by the Municipality of Oristano to residents and non-residents to circulate and stop on the limited traffic roads (ztl) established 17 years ago by the then administration of the mayor Tonino Barberio. Too many, according to residents.

The signs placed at the entrance and exit gates in fact in all these years have been totally disregarded until a month ago the Municipal Police intervened by sanctioning over 50 motorists.

The fines for violations of the highway code up to 22 June 2023 raised by the traffic police brought 538 thousand euros to the municipal coffers compared to 486 thousand for the whole semester of 2022. And almost 40 thousand euros came from infringements relating to the ztl.

The Councilor for Mobility Ivano Cuccu, however, on the closure to traffic of the historic center does not go back : «We will proceed with an examination to verify the permanence or otherwise of the requirements that had led to the authorization. We will establish how many passes to assign to a resident family, which according to the latest data do not exceed 400, with the exceptions provided for by law for voluntary and assistance organisations. I will meet citizens and organizations to check the timetables and other details to leave by arranging the cameras at the entrance and exit », explains the commissioner.

So we go on but the controversies, also rekindled by the fines of the last month, are not lacking.
