Loudspeakers that emit the sound of birds of prey to chase away starlings. And make their guano that covers cars, streets and sidewalks disappear. This is the strategy adopted by the Municipality of Oristano , which installed two sound diffusion systems - one in Piazza Roma and the other in Piazza Manno - to start a bird-repelling campaign.

«The new intervention adds to those already launched by the Municipality in recent weeks in the areas most affected by the presence of starlings», explains councilor Maria Bonaria Zedda, «we intervened with specific disinfestation activities and for cleaning the birds' guano, the collection and disposal of special waste".

The new control units, mounted on the trees in Piazza Roma and Piazza Manno, come into service today, broadcasting the cry of a bird of prey with the aim of keeping starlings away. The cry is repeated at 15 minute intervals, every day between 4.30pm and 8pm.

«The arrival of the starlings has caused inconvenience», adds Zedda, «The number of these birds in this period is very high and in recent days it is causing environmental and cleanliness problems, especially in Piazza Roma and Piazza Manno. To combat their presence in a non-bloody way, we commissioned a specialized company, Nuova Prima di Marrubiu, to install two control units with a programmable vocal speaker that broadcasts the cry of a bird of prey, a system already tested in many cities which has always been extremely effective for the removal of these birds from inhabited centers".
