The Municipality of Porto Torres is accelerating the acquisition process for the land housing the Domus de Janas , the archaeological site of the Su Crucifissu Mannu necropolis, a UNESCO World Heritage site, just outside the city. This is a crucial step in redeveloping the entire area.

"Thanks to the funds allocated in the budget approved on July 2nd by the city council," explains Culture Councilor Maria Bastiana Cocco, " the Mulas administration will be able to finalize, after another round of discussions with the council, the sale and purchase process with the private owners of the areas and begin a series of conservation and enhancement projects funded by the Sardinia Region to the Municipality of Porto Torres with €150,000."

The Municipality has requested a conference of services to obtain the relevant authorizations and opinions from the relevant bodies—the Sassari-Nuoro Archaeological Superintendence, the Regional Department of Local Authorities, and the Municipal Building and Urban Planning Service—to approve the project for the interventions to be carried out to enhance the area. These actions will include improving the site's accessibility, demarcating it, creating a parking area, and installing informational and educational signage, to be installed in accordance with the guidelines of the relevant offices of the ABAP Superintendence. The deadline for the involved administrations to submit their decisions or opinions is 60 days.

"While awaiting further funding, already provided by the Region, the set of actions identified in this project will enable an initial intervention aimed at ensuring improved accessibility and greater usability of the site," the councilor continues, "which, following its UNESCO recognition, has seen a significant increase in visitors in recent months and will play a strategic role in the administration's cultural development plans."

The administration has submitted a project form to the Region to participate in the public tender and obtain the necessary resources to improve road safety in the section connecting the Su Cucifissu Mannu site to the former 131. The archaeological area is the subject of a visit program organized by the Porto Torres Tourist Office, managed by the Memoria Storica cooperative.
