Olbia, “Tourism Meeting”: overcrowding is not a concern «but rules are needed»
In the opening conference, moderated by the economist Francesco Marcetti, numbers and analysis on the season just ended and future prospectsFar beyond the theme of overtourism during the works of the 18th “Meeting del turismo”, organized by the association “Una scuola Sarda” at the Archaeological Museum of Olbia.
In the opening conference, moderated by the economist Francesco Marcetti, numbers and analysis on the season just ended and future prospects . The tourist overcrowding, which, as anticipated by the Councilor for Tourism, Crafts and Trade of the Region, Franco Cuccureddu, will soon be addressed in a meeting with the mayors of the main destinations of the Island, does not worry administrators and operators in the sector.
"Overtourism can become a problem in periods of concentration of events and for some pearls such as the beaches of La Pelosa, Cala Brandinchi or Cala Luna - reiterated the councilor Cuccureddu -. I would not therefore speak of overtourism but of the need to adopt rules and methodologies of communication to safeguard our territory and our identity with a careful eye on the environment and society".
Of fundamental importance, however, is to move towards an innovative tourism governance, represented by the Dmo (Destination Management Organization) to make the Region a destination perceived as a tourist destination in every period of the year ; a concept, this also reiterated by the vice-governor Giuseppe Meloni and the mayor of Olbia, Settimo Nizzi. The morning ended with the assignment of the Gusto Award, now in its eighth edition, in collaboration with ALEO (Olbia Economics Graduates Association); the recipients in the categories of accommodation, sport, media and music were Francesca Fiore, Andrea Mura, Matteo Porru and the Tenores di Bitti.
Tomorrow is the second day with the training seminar, led by Dr. Salvatore Spinosa, on reception and hospitality, with the theme “Parola ai grandi maestri”, intended for operators in the sector and university and high school students. The meeting ends on Sunday 17 with a morning dedicated to environmental protection and cleaning of some sites in the city, in collaboration with the Department of the Environment of the Municipality of Olbia and the Plastic Free association.
