The wreck of the yacht Atina, which caught fire on August 10 and sank off the coast of Le Saline beach, was recovered a few days ago. But some fragments of the vessel continue to float and there are still traces of debris from the wreck on the coast. Numerous reports were received by the Port Authority of Olbia, the Maritime Directorate of Northern Sardinia specified that cleaning and reclamation operations on the seabed are still underway.
"It is clear that such an invasive action, regarding the recovery of a wreck, cannot take place without the possibility of moving waste materials and combustion products that could accidentally reach the coast," said the director, Captain Gianluca D'Agostino.
"The operations are continuing today with the manual removal of debris still present on the seabed and therefore in the next few days there could still be beaching of materials that will be promptly eliminated and disposed of", D'Agostino specified, adding that the intervention, carried out by the company in charge, is guaranteed by the Coast Guard personnel present on site with the IV° diving unit, a naval unit and a team on land to monitor that the operations are all carried out in compliance with the marine environment.
