The first name on the list of alleged victims of the crime is the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella. They are followed by two deputy inspectors and an assistant chief of the State Police, all serving at the Olbia police station, who have joined the civil action.
A defamation trial began this morning before the preliminary hearing judge of the Tempio Pausania Court, Federica Di Stefano. Olbia native Francesco Dongu is in the dock.
The investigation focused on a fake Facebook profile with the nickname "Sergio Mafiarella" and an image of the President of the Republic. The user, hiding under the false identity, had posted insults and comments against law enforcement officials.
The investigations led to the identification of Dongu, who is now facing charges of defamation: the three State Police officers turned themselves in through their lawyers Angela Corda, Lia Deiana, and Michela Garau.
