Davide Iannelli can support the trial . This was decided by the Court of Assizes of Sassari, presided over by judge Massimo Zaniboni, who rejected the request of the defenders Abele and Cristina Cherchi to carry out a psychiatric assessment to assess whether their client was in the psychophysical conditions to consciously face the trial.
The man, in fact, is accused of the murder of Toni Cozzolino , his neighbor who was burned alive in Olbia on 11 March 2022 and died in hospital after ten days. In the certification presented by the lawyers, it is certified that Iannelli - for about a year - has been treated in prison by taking psychotropic drugs.
In the Court's opinion, the psychophysical analysis carried out last March upon the accused's arrival in the Sassari prison is to be considered valid. On that occasion, the experts had recognized the full capacity to support the process .
In the meantime, today was the day of the testimony of some witnesses, including that of a neighbor who spoke of the "hellish" climate that was experienced in the condominium in via Petta and of the constant arguments between Iannelli and Cozzolino. The victim's children, who were also interviewed today, confirmed the tension between the two men: «My father», explained Cozzolino's daughter, « was worried about himself , his partner and their son, so much so that he I had recommended going to sleep at grandma's house."
