In recent days, the State Police executed a detention order issued by the Tempio Pausania Public Prosecutor's Office . The order concerns a 39-year-old Albanian citizen, resident in Olbia for several years, who was definitively sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison.
The incident dates back to New Year's Eve 2016, when the man was caught with a fellow Italian with 1 kg of cocaine. The conviction was handed down by the Tempio Pausania Court in 2019, but the 39-year-old had already disappeared before the verdict was issued, beginning a nearly nine-year period as a fugitive.
The epilogue came yesterday: at the end of the investigative activity conducted by the Olbia Police Station's Anti-Crime Squad to track him down, the man spontaneously presented himself at the police station's offices, handing himself over to the officers.
After the usual formalities, the 39-year-old was taken to prison in Sassari, as ordered by the judicial authorities.
