The Region goes against the Government on offshore wind farms: a negative and motivated opinion has been sent on the “Management Plan for the Maritime Space “Tyrrhenian-Western Mediterranean” proposed by the national executive.

"Despite our repeated observations at the Technical Committee, the Plan still seems to be incomplete, lacking specific measures for areas beyond 12 nautical miles. This makes it substantially ineffective, not allowing for legal certainty for institutions and operators, nor the possibility of full participation by communities", commented the Councilor for Local Authorities, Francesco Spanedda.

The lack of specific measures for such a vast sea area can only have substantial effects on the suitability of the instrument to achieve the objectives. Furthermore, the economic resources indicated as necessary within the Plan are missing, and above all the regulation of the off-shore.

"The Region", Spanedda specified, "strongly requests that the Plan include the inclusion, for wind farms, of a limit of 25 miles from the coast and in any case of non-visibility from land and from panoramic routes, the prohibition of installation and passage of cables in areas subject to environmental protection , the provision of cumulative impact studies in all Management Plans and a maximum limit of installable power corresponding to the installation objectives set by the Pniec for national production. Finally, the Region requests the guarantee of fair distribution of the energy production effort to avoid excessive concentration in a single area".

The Plan, therefore lacking from a regulatory point of view, does not take into account the specificities of the Sardinian Sea and its relationship with the landscape and ecosystems of the island.

"The Region," declared the Environment Councilor, Rosanna Laconi, "is fighting to defend its territory. We are for a fair, democratic energy transition that guarantees our environmental heritage."
