Thousands of small white fragments resembling pellets . This is the discovery several beachgoers are making these hours at Poetto beach in Cagliari.
In particular, the presence of these very small balls , in the order of a few millimetres, was reported at the height of the fourth stop.
These would be Nurdles , or microplastics that pollute the environment and the marine ecosystem, which are used as raw materials in the plastics industry.
It's possible the grains may have escaped from a ship's cargo and been washed ashore by the sea current. The Coast Guard has been notified.
