Oceanic crowd for the farewell to Patrick and Ythan: «You played happy, death ambushed you»

Nuoro stops to say goodbye to Patryik and Ythan . With the city in mourning, the church of San Domenico Savio hosts the funeral of the two boys aged 15 and 14 who died on Easter Monday evening in the collapse of an old building in via Dessanay. A moment of reflection and pain, with the celebration presided over by Bishop Antonello Mura.

There is an oceanic crowd, which the parish is unable to accommodate. Thousands of people invaded the churchyard and the surrounding streets . An affectionate embrace from the city to those kids who left too soon, to the relatives and friends inconsolable in their pain.

«In this Easter week of the resurrection of Christ, we find ourselves with great suffering to take note of the absence of two of our boys, of their tragic unbearable death first of all for their families - said Monsignor Mura -. When a child, a boy, dies, it is as if something inside each of us dies. Patrick and Ythan, you played as you liked to do and perhaps we got a little too distracted, not realizing the risks of the abandoned buildings and death, not God, ambushed you ."

«Let's imagine the happiness of running here and there on that Easter Monday animated by curiosity and the desire to discover, until the moment in which the unforeseeable interrupted everything, breaking your wings - added the bishop -. We adults should be the ones to let you play and offer you safety . Now your emotions belong to us and question us. Patrick and Ythan you lived the final hour intensely, you leave us your smiles full of dreams and hopes."

A touching mass that follows the torchlight procession which, last night, between Via Dessanay and the church, attracted thousands of people. During the bishop's homily, tears ran down the faces of his friends, schoolmates, the kids from the oratory and the basketball team.

And at the end of the service, hundreds of white balloons were released outside the church.
