A multi-organ donation will restore hope and a future for five people on the transplant waiting list . It took place a few days ago at the San Francesco Hospital in Nuoro , thanks to the extraordinary generosity of a young woman from Nuoro who expressed her desire to donate her organs during her lifetime, and to the great professionalism and collaboration of the medical teams involved. "With this gesture of enormous generosity and the highest civic sense ," explains Dr. Pierina Ticca, director of the San Francesco Local Transplant Coordination, " a concrete response has been provided that will save the lives of five people waiting ."

The collection was performed by several specialist teams who traveled to Nuoro from Turin, Modena, Bari, and Cagliari . "This operation was made possible," Ticca continues, "thanks to the tremendous networking efforts of all the professionals at Nuoro hospital, who participated in the entire process, in close collaboration with the Regional Transplant Center of Sardinia and the National Transplant Center."

Dr. Pierina Ticca, together with Angelo Domenico Palmas (Hematology – Bone Marrow Transplant Center) and Adriana Ibba (Immunotransfusion Medicine), is also among the promoters of the monthly initiative "Cuore di Barbagia," an information desk dedicated to raising awareness about organ, bone marrow, and blood donation, strongly supported by the current health director of ASL 3, Angelo Zuccarelli.
