The patience of the citizens of Torpè and their mayor , Martino Sanna , towards Abbanoa who for over a month has continued to distribute non - potable water along the town 's pipelines has come to an end .

The mayor spoke yesterday about the condition of "extreme emergency" in a videoconference attended by the president of Egas, Fabio Albieri, and Antonio Deidda representing Abbanoa Spa and explaining in a timely manner the state of the purifier that feeds the utilities of Torpè.

The plant seems to be old, obsolete and no longer capable of improving the conditions of the turbid incoming water .

«The solution proposed by Deidda, whom I thank for the availability and frankness with which he addressed the issues under discussion - explained Martino Sanna -, provides for the replacement of the purification module with too long times that risk approaching 12 months . For our part, and to overcome the emergency in a few days - continued the mayor -, we have proposed to take water from the river through an existing pipeline already used in particularly exceptional situations which fishes from the surface, ensuring higher quality, and not from the bottom. In order to proceed quickly, however, it is necessary to immediately involve the Consorzio di Bonifica della Sardegna centrale».

Today's meeting was updated in ten days when Abbanoa will take stock of the next steps to take.

"On the part of the municipal administration there is every willingness to collaborate to find a solution , so that the right to a primary asset such as drinking water is immediately reassured to our fellow citizens", observed Sanna. Who added: «It is in fact unacceptable that in the heart of summer and during the tourist season Corso Torpè should have to face this emergency , where a public utility service is no longer provided to around 2,600 inhabitants. In a few weeks, users will rise considerably with the arrival of tourists to whom we will be forced to show up with the worst business card».

Should the situation not be resolved within a reasonable time, the Municipality does not exclude evaluating the initiation of legal actions with related requests for compensation for damages caused to citizens by Abbanoa.
