Non-potable water from Sarroch to Chia: the tankers are coming
Pipeline failure at Tecnocasic, manganese levels up to nine times higher than normal at Cixerri: alarm goes offPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
Non-potable water from Sarroch to Chia. This is the situation that the municipalities of one of the most frequented areas of the south-western coast of Sardinia are experiencing, with the tourist season now in full swing. The alarm has also been raised in Pula and Domus de Maria .
The emergency – which risks putting the water supply of homes, residences and commercial activities in crisis – was caused by a fault in the Tecnocasic pipeline , damaged in recent days along the line that supplies raw water to the industrial area of Sarroch and the Abbanoa “La Tavernetta” water purification plant , also in the Sarroch area. «The supply to the network is guaranteed – Abbanoa assures – but we cannot guarantee its drinkability. The water can only be used for hygiene and sanitary purposes».
The technical damage caused the interruption of the supply from the Mulargia reservoir, temporarily replaced by that of the Cixerri , which however presents critical quality parameters, especially with regard to turbidity and concentration of manganese , with values between 600 and 900 micrograms per liter, well above the standard average. A situation that puts the drinkability of the South-Western aqueduct at risk, just when coastal locations such as Pula, Domus de Maria, Chia and Villa San Pietro are being stormed by thousands of tourists.
Abbanoa technicians are working to strengthen the filtration and disinfection systems for the water arriving from Cixerri, but in the meantime a replacement service with tankers has been activated, operational from tomorrow in the affected centers.
