New protest by the citizens of Barbagia Mandrolisai against the shortcomings of the healthcare system. This morning a delegation from the "SOS Sanità Barbagia Mandrolisai" committee, supported by the coordination of the Sardinian public health committees, started a sit-in in front of the Ares headquarters, in via Peretti in Cagliari, to protest against the lack of paediatricians: out of 14 municipalities in the area, there is not even a doctor on duty to care for young residents.

«This is the first protest against an emergency that is becoming unsustainable for the health of our children and for the tranquility of parents», explains Bachis Cadau, «the departure of the last pediatrician remaining in the area had been in the air for several months, but despite this no action has been taken to remedy the situation and in fact since January 1st our socio-health district has not been able to provide assistance to children in the innermost area of Sardinia".

For the representatives of the committee "the most basic principles of the national health service which aims to eliminate economic, social and in our case also geographical barriers are being violated, given that we live in an area with poor roads and transport".

«We met the Ares managers but the answers we were looking for did not arrive», says Franca Salvai, mother and activist of the committee, «it was explained to us that they are completing all the tenders for the deficient locations and that the assignments are proceeding quickly, but disadvantaged areas are not chosen by professionals, not even with incentives. The Region does not have a plan B for us and it is clear that we will be without a pediatrician for a long time. In our area, mothers move to Nuoro or Cagliari to give birth to their children and from now on they will also move to simply weigh the child or measure its growth. But we", promises Franca, "will not give up".
