Nico Rosberg visited the places in the Oristano area hit by the devastating fire this summer and donated 39 thousand euros for the reconstruction.

The former German Formula 1 champion, in Sardinia with his team participating in the Island X Prix, the fourth date of Extreme E, an international series reserved for ecological off-road vehicles, asked the regional president of the Red Cross Sergio Piredda the desire to carry out an inspection in the Montiferru.

This visit was held this morning in Santu Lussurgiù, where the 2016 Formula 1 world champion also met some agricultural entrepreneurs who suffered damage in the fire that covered over 15 thousand hectares at the end of July.

"I express deep gratitude to Nico Rosberg and his foundation for the commitment of the champion who wanted, through the CRI, to get closer to the citizens and administrators of Oristano", said Piredda.

"Quite incredible what happened - the driver said -, I am happy that we can contribute in our small way by helping 200 families".

The same electric SUV race - scheduled for 23 and 24 in the Teulada military range - will be an opportunity to present and launch a mapping and detection tool for forest fires that may also prove useful for firefighters and teams intervention against fire.

Then a post on Instagram: “It is shocking to visit the areas affected by the fires here in Sardinia - writes the champion -, families have lost their agricultural land, their animals and their livelihood. It is a terrible situation and we are here to help you, Sardinia. I am proud that we have partnered with the Italian Red Cross to support the local community. Our donation of € 39,000 will benefit affected families by providing them with vouchers that can be redeemed at local partner shops to purchase personal items. "
