«Highly dangerous and unauthorized event» .
The Castello neighborhood committee lashes out against the initiative promoted at the Bastione di Saint Remy on the upcoming New Year's Eve .
The free event to celebrate the arrival of 2025 in one of the most evocative settings of Cagliari includes, starting at 10 pm, the DJ set of local artists Jfk, Venc and Tixi and, after the midnight countdown, the live performance of the musician Rovelli . Unmissable at the moment of the toast are the fireworks that, seen from the terrace of the Bastione, are even more evocative. A large area will be dedicated to food & beverage and another to the toilets.
"While we understand the importance of initiatives aimed at promoting sociality and the attractiveness of the city during the holidays, we highlight a series of critical issues that can generate serious risks for public safety," explains the neighborhood committee.
The first concern is due to the fact that the area "will not be subjected to the examination of the commission for the supervision of public entertainment venues". This "is very worrying, considering the capacity of the Bastion and the organizational complexity of the event". The risk is that of an "uncontrolled crowding", also due to the proximity to Piazza Yenne, where another event is planned. "We fear that the overall turnout on the Bastion could exceed 20 thousand people , a crowd of this size, in the absence of adequate safety measures, risks creating highly dangerous and difficult to manage situations".
The risk is also highlighted, "in the absence of widespread control, of petty crimes and the sale of alcohol to minors". Furthermore, the committee explains, " there is no mandatory presence of ambulances, firefighters' vehicles or a structured emergency plan to date ". The consequences are "potentially dramatic".
The risk, in essence, is that of transforming the Bastione into "an open-air disco in the heart of the historic centre", something "incompatible with the protection of public safety and urban decorum" .
The committee is not asking to cancel the event, but to "rigorously evaluate the feasibility", paying "maximum attention to the authorization process". To guarantee the presence of ambulances and firefighters, and a plan to manage attendance and safety.
" The competent authorities - is the appeal - should intervene quickly and decisively to prevent any possible risk and guarantee safety ."
