There are more and more orders from Sardinian mayors to ban barrels on New Year's Eve.

The mayor of Oristano , Massimiliano Sanna, signed an ordinance which prohibits barrels of any kind throughout the municipal area from midnight on 30 December to midnight on 6 January 2023. «This year too we confirm a measure of civilization that aims to protect the well-being of weak subjects and animals frightened by noise - explains Sanna -. There are many citizens who every year request this measure which, it should be stressed, is not only for the benefit of animals. In fact, we remind you that banning barrels serves to prevent accidents which often fall victim to people who use them too casually and that the same noise that scares animals can also be harmful to weak subjects, children, the elderly and suffering people who are exposed to psycho-physical stress".

Anyone who does not comply with the provision will be subject to an administrative fine ranging from 25 to 500 euros .

Situation similar to Carbonia where the mayor Pietro Morittu prohibits the use of firecrackers, barrels and pyrotechnic devices of any kind in the vicinity and at a distance of less than 200 meters from places of worship, cinemas, public squares, public gardens and parks, animal shelters in the period between 30 December 2022 and 6 January 2023.

"The rationale of the ordinance is aimed at preventing the explosion of firecrackers from causing, due to the fright induced by noise and light effects, negative consequences for people and animals, as well as phenomena of urban decay and pollution - the Municipality - Every year, in fact, especially on New Year's Eve, the improper use of firecrackers, firecrackers and similar artifacts is often the cause of injuries to people, even of serious entities, as well as a factor of discomfort for the well-being of our animals, who can get scared, run away and lose their bearings, with exposure to the risk of getting lost or being run over".

For those who do not comply with the ordinance, penalties ranging from 100 to 500 euros are foreseen.
