There's been complete silence surrounding the appointment of the new general director of the Olbia Local Health Authority, Antonio Orione . The regional council formally appointed Irione (Campania's private healthcare manager) to the position on February 22nd, effective the following day. However, Irione hasn't taken up his duties to date, and no one has seen him at the Gallura Local Health Authority offices.
As is well known, Democratic Party representatives deserted the regional council meeting during which the general directors of the Cagliari and Olbia local health authorities were appointed. Adding to the uncertainty is the recent rumor regarding the former extraordinary commissioner of the Olbia local health authority, Ottaviano Contu. The manager was reportedly contacted to explore his availability to assume the role of the Gallura local health authority. This circumstance now casts serious doubt on Irione's appointment. Contu, in the recent past, has reportedly confirmed on several occasions his interest in continuing his experience at the Olbia local health authority, but has placed the preconditions of a joint appointment within the regional council and the possibility of continuing the work begun with health director Pietro Masia and administrative director Michele Baffigo.
