«A third world situation. This time it happened to my mother, but it could happen to anyone."

These are the words of Michelina Mulas (agricultural entrepreneur from Fonni, with a company in Siamanna), who from Nuoro denounces the odyssey faced by her 91-year-old mother to find a place in the ward at the San Francesco hospital.

«On Wednesday, at lunchtime, my mother fell at home, hit her head and broke her femur . We immediately called the ambulance and within a short time we arrived at the emergency room."

So far, so good. But once in the hospital the communication arrives: «At the moment there are no places available in the ward» , continues Mulas.

«So my mother was left on the stretcher, waiting . Now, when we go to the emergency room, we all have to wait. You expect to wait an hour, two hours, three, maybe even seven. But after thirty hours (the report to L'Unione Sarda.it is from 8pm on Friday, ed.) my mother is still there, on the stretcher, waiting for a place to become available. A situation - continues Michelina Mulas - absurd and in my opinion shameful."

The woman is assisted by her other daughter, "forced to give up every commitment to stay by her side", specifies Mulas. Which also underlines the fact that «since my mother was not hospitalized, the tests were carried out on her – which confirmed the broken femur – but she was not given meals. Only after repeated insistence on our part was she given at least a physiological test and then, from the waiting room, she was taken, still on the stretcher, to a more "quiet" room."

Mulas herself adds: «We also tried to ask if it was possible to move her to another facility that had room. But we were told that there were no beds available in any hospital in Gallura. A surreal and very serious situation in my opinion ."

«Sooner or later – concludes the entrepreneur – a bed will become free. But I find it inconceivable that a 91-year-old elderly woman would have to go through such an odyssey. And this applies not only to my mother, but to all public health users."
