The official announcement was communicated to the Turritan priests, gathered for the annual diocesan conference in the Monastery of San Pietro di Sorres, in Borutta, by Archbishop Gian Franco Saba. The new Vicar General is Monsignor Marco Carta, former parish priest of the Sassari Cathedral of San Nicola. The appointment will take effect from 6 August, the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord.

Archbishop Saba said: «After a beautiful morning of work, in this context of the presbyterate's journey, it seemed appropriate to me to choose this date to communicate the summary of the discernment regarding the appointment of the new Vicar General, who I identified in the figure of Monsignor Marco Carta. I thank Don Marco for his availability, because every availability means taking to the field, getting involved, putting yourself at service. The Vicar General is, first of all, the vicar of the Bishop at the service of the Particular Church".

The Archbishop of Sassari added: «After accepting the resignation of the previous Vicar General, Monsignor Antonio Tamponi, whom I still thank for the service he has carried out, I carried out the necessary discernment so that with the appointment of the new Vicar General we can continue the path started in the reorganization of the Curia, for the distribution of "efforts" and services".
