The church of the Santissimo Nome di Maria, in the La Palma district of Cagliari, was packed with faithful from all over Sardinia for the celebration of the mass officiated by the archbishop of the capital, Monsignor Giuseppe Baturi, on the occasion of the celebrations for the twentieth anniversary of the Filipino community on the island.
Having arrived in Cagliari since 1994, many of them now have Italian citizenship or even children born in Sardinia, but as is normal they maintain a great love for their country of origin and attachment to traditions.
Today, many wanted to meet in the church of the neighborhood that overlooks the Molentargius pond, one of the parishes of reference for the entire community of Filipino faithful, given the presence over the years of parish priests or assistant priests who arrived from the great archipelago of the Asian continent. The Filipino community is one of the largest in Sardinia with at least 2,500 immigrants who live and work there, mostly in the capital and in the metropolitan area of Cagliari.
