A 30-year-old man, a resident of the Cagliari hinterland and already known to law enforcement, was arrested last night on charges of possession of an unlicensed weapon.

The operation was conducted by the Carabinieri of Monserrato , with the support of their colleagues from Selargius, during a territorial control service.

According to the reconstruction, the 30-year-old was noticed while passing through the city centre.

At the sight of the soldiers, he tried to avoid the check, arousing the suspicions of the patrol who decided to proceed with more in-depth investigations.

The subsequent search, which also included the man's home , yielded a homemade 12-gauge weapon, without a serial number, along with illegally held ammunition. The material was seized.

Once the formal procedures were completed, the man was taken to prison in Uta , where he remains at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
