Hit by a car on the provincial road near Monastir, the driver fled the scene, but thanks to eyewitness accounts, the Carabinieri are on his trail.
A twenty-year-old cyclist who was thrown to the ground this morning by a driver driving a Clio who did not stop to provide assistance is hospitalized at the Santissima Trinità hospital with bruises and suspected fractures.
Quartu City Council President Tonio Pani recounted the incident: "There were three of us: me a little ahead, the boy behind, and his grandfather behind him. We always cycle in a line, on the edge of the road." When they reached the turnoff for Cagliari, "this guy in the car suddenly turned and knocked him to the ground. Then he accelerated to escape. According to other witnesses , it almost seems like he did it on purpose."
But the hit-and-run driver's escape might not be long-lasting: "The boy who was hit managed to make out the first letters of the license plate number and identified the car's model," Pani continues. "The Carabinieri are in control."
There was a lot of fear: "But fortunately," concludes the president of the Via Eligio Porcu City Council, "the helmet did its job. But the act was cowardly. It's better for the person responsible to report himself to the police."
