Minehunters in action off Quirra: sea closed even in summer
Explorations with underwater robots for the Numana ship, swimming prohibited off the coast of Murtas and not only. Are they looking for other devices? While the Stinger and Aster 30 missiles remain on the bottomPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
Sea prohibited in summer in Sardinia. It happens in large bodies of water in front of the Murtas beach in Villaputzu, where since June 1st - on the basis of a State-Region agreement - access to bathers is permitted.
In front of it, close to the shore and offshore, numerous and vast areas have been established where navigation, fishing and bathing are prohibited, linked to the activities of the military vessel Numana, which will have to explore the seabed with a Rov, an underwater robot.
The order of the Arbatax maritime district office will be in force from June 16 to July 25. It affects three portions of sea in front of Murtas (also around the Quirra rock) and others in front and off Capo San Lorenzo, the launch point of the inter-force polygon.
The Coast Guard offices that issued the warning do not know the reasons for the activities of the Numana, a minesweeper of the Italian Navy. Certainly these are operations linked to the presence of the polygon and the exercises, which for the live fire part are interrupted during the summer season but continue to generate repercussions.
However, we can make some hypotheses, looking at the past. In July of last year, a similar notice was issued, valid for the whole of August and September. No ban, but the obligation for all vessels to keep a minimum distance of two miles from the ships of the Leonardo Spa company that would have been engaged in "research operations and reclamation of the seabed from the residues of military exercises". Therefore, the work of the Numana could be preparatory to the recovery of some bomb used during the exercises.
If this is a possibility, there is one certainty: the latest order does not concern the two missiles lost at the end of Joints Stars, at the end of May: the dangerous Aster 30 and the Stinger are further out, at a depth of 600 and 100 meters respectively. And at the moment there is no news of recovery actions.
