A small boat of migrants sank off the coast of the island , in the Cala Zafferano area, in the territory of Teulada .
The dynamics of the incident are still unclear. Late in the morning, according to reports, an Army patrol boat rescued 11 migrants who were trying to swim to shore . Once in port, they reported one or two sunken boats and at least four missing , and were then entrusted to the care of Army medical personnel.
The deployment of forces for the rescue was immediate and impressive, with the air and naval means of the Coast Guard, Fire Brigade and Guardia di Finanza taking care of it. The Carabinieri and ambulances also arrived on site. Searches on land were also started, which allowed 16 more people to be traced between Cala Zafferano and the Teulada shooting range. All 27 migrants rescued were adults, three of them women.
The other four are still missing, their companions report having seen them disappear under the waves.
