The State and the Region, thanks to the sentences of the Court of Auditors of Sardinia, have recovered 18,224,368 euros, through 54 convictions in 69 proceedings regarding the liability of public administrators or private individuals who had access to public contributions . Overall, the Regional Prosecutor's Office carried out tax proceedings for a total of 24,644,340.47 euros.

«It should be noted», clarified the President of the Court, Donata Cabras in her report at the opening of the inauguration ceremony of the judicial year, «that 2023 was characterized, in addition to the increase in liability sentences of 32%, also for the significant number of actions to defend the tax credit carried out by the Prosecutor's Office: in fact, 17 appeals for precautionary seizure were filed which involved a considerable commitment even in the summer period for the management of both the precautionary requests and the complaints presented".

In the sector of judicial accounts, compared to the 2,190 introduced during the year, 2,532 were defined, of which 1,403 with a termination order and 1,129 approved with a discharge decree for the accounting agent. «However, although in reduced ranks», continued the president, «all the magistrates assigned to the office, principally or additionally, contributed in full synergy and promptly to the achievement of the pre-established objectives, but with the continuation of the uncoveries and the "If the situation of hardship, which has already been felt, worsens, it will not be possible to ensure that the levels achieved so far are maintained."

Above all, the numbers bear witness to the great work carried out last year by the magistrates of the regional prosecutor's office of the Court of Auditors. «In 2023, 1722 dismissals were issued, compared to 1362 reports of damage, with a notable increase compared to the 820 reports in 2022 (+66%)».

The sector where there is the greatest criticality is that of the undue perception of public contributions and community fraud, so much so that in this sector 38 proceedings have been registered for a total of over 4 million euros (4,104,461.76 euros). The majority of cases concern the receipt, usually for different years, of public contributions by breeders and farmers who have falsely certified the requirements for accessing funding. Further summonses, with also five invitations to deduct, against public employees who presented from the workplace: a total disputed damage of 324 thousand euros.

There were also numerous proceedings against workers of public bodies who carried out other activities, thus violating the exclusivity obligations (here too the disputes amounted to approximately 314 thousand euros). Among the reported cases of medical malpractice, 775 thousand euros were attributed to the crew of an ambulance called during the night by a lady to help her son, who was in a coma, which would have been forgotten as "acute alcoholism", without carrying out toxicological tests which would have discovered that it was instead of overdose. The patient later died.

Finally, the investigators of the treasury judiciary contested thousands of euros in damages to administrators for abuses of power or cases of mobbing. Of note is the 100 thousand euros for damage to the image of the Municipality of Portoscuso which the prosecutors of the Court of Auditors attribute to Adriano Puddu, former mayor, convicted of undue inducement: he allegedly induced three women who were in a state of need to have repeated relationships with him sexually to obtain economic aid aimed at combating situations of extreme poverty.
