Trexenta cheese conquers Japan. The Foodex fair in Tokyo, now in its fiftieth edition, is the most important agri-food fair in Japan, as well as an event of great global commercial appeal.
The eight Sardinian companies that participated with the collective of the Sardinia Region and with the help of ICE (Italian Trade & Investment Agency) are: Accademia Olearia, Le Mareviglie, Caseificio Argiolas, SF Sardapan, Tenute Olbios, Tipico, Ayò alimenti and Caseificio Antonio Garau dal 1880. «We proposed our pecorino which was widely appreciated and the comments of the Japanese, who tasted it, were positive considering it delicate, tasty with a mix of scents and aromas», says Marina Garau, who runs the company together with her brother Mimmo.
The representatives of the award-winning company from Mandas were able to tell their more than one hundred-year-old story, listened to with admiration and respect probably because the Japanese people particularly care about everything that leads back to history given their interface between modernity and ancient traditions always present in everyday life.
Italy is ranked fifteenth among Japan's suppliers, maintaining a large growth potential. For some types of products, such as pasta and tomato preserves, Italy holds undisputed leadership positions, for other types of products there is a progressive increase, for example for cheeses there is a knowledge of French ones, with a growing curiosity and appreciation for Italian ones. "Upon our return we were greeted by wonderful news - continues Garau - a recognition also for 2025 by the most important national cheese competition, the Italian Cheese Awards, which has selected the Top 100 of the best cheeses in Italy, choosing our Piccolo Giunco pecorino, already awarded in 2024, among the top 10 best pecorinos in Italy in the fresh category and our Cardureu pecorino produced with vegetable rennet, already a Super Gold medalist at world level, among the 10 best cheeses in the semi-mature category".
