"Mandas is like a book, to be read". With these words, Mayor Umberto Oppus inaugurated Piazza Grazia Deledda, built by the Municipality in the year of the Nobel Prize writer's 150th birthday. The works were financed by the government.

It is an evocative street furniture, embellished by the setting up of literary benches made exclusively with the recycling of marble and granite waste. An eco-sustainable choice made to avoid the exploitation of new quarry land and to prevent marble processing waste from creating major problems of environmental impact.

The municipal administration of Mandas continues to promote initiatives that bring together public works and culture. The square dedicated to Grazia Deledda was born from the conviction that through the culture and the verses of the Sardinian poetess it is possible to preserve and enhance the treasure of the identity of a people.

Starting from the same consideration, the Municipality organizes the cultural festival “DH Lawrence meets Grazia Deledda”: on the centenary of the stay of the famous English writer in Mandas and on the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Nobel Prize for literature, various cultural events are scheduled.
